The CBD is the core of an urban area and the center of commercial activity, civic life, and entertainment. The role of the CBD is still generally strong, but its preeminence of earlier decades has faded to some degree with the growth of suburbs and the decentralization and dispersal of some core activities. The CBD is important in urban history. It marked the first permanent developed area of a settlement, and its location was usually decided by a significant site factor, such as a landing point on a navigable river, location on a railroad line, or key location on a seacoast.

Agribusiness identifies the vast and dynamic interaction of the farm sector with other technological and business sectors. Briefly, this intricate system includes all aspects of agriculture: implements and machinery; seeds; chemicals; modern farm-management practices; the farms themselves; the crops and animal products that are sent to food-processing plants; and the vast delivery and marketing organizations that produce, package, and distribute the final products. Agribusiness is truly big business.
